The TGCTA, in its long history stretching over five decades, has always believed in achieving its goals through consistent appeals to the government, and through the bilateral talks and negotiations with the authorities whenever necessary.
TGCTA has succeeded in improving the pay, job security, working conditions, structural adjustments and functional initiatives of teachers. Also, TGCTA has always extended its support and contribution for social causes and during natural disasters.

TGCTA Functional Mechanism
Telangana Government College Teachers’ Association (TGCTA), formerly known as Government College Teachers’ Association( GCTA ) in the Combined state of Andhra Pradesh, has been in the service of its fraternity since its inception. Established in 1966 through GOMSNo.198 dated: 22.02.1966, Eminent Scholars such as Prof. Jaya Shanker garu and Chukka Ramaiah garu served this organization as Secretary and President respectively in 1970s.
Right from its inception, TCGTA has been serving its members in achieving better service conditions such as Pension benefits, securing of UGC Scales, Guide ship to Degree College Teachers on par with University Teachers, Re-designation of Degree College teachers as Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, Extension of Child Care Leave, Paternity Leave etc ,.
TGCTA also aims to achieve,
- To emphasize role played by the Faculty members of Government Degree Colleges where students from rural, poor and marginalized sections get admitted.
- To foster linkage between Government and parents of Government College students.
- Abolishing of Contributory Pension Scheme applicable to those faculty members recruited after 01.09.2004.
- Implementation of Promotion from Associate professor to Professor in Degree Colleges in the state as per latest UGC Guidelines.
A permanent teacher working in any Government Degree College in Telangana state can become member by paying an annual subscription of Rs. 1000/- as per guidelines mentioned in the By-laws.
TGCTA has three tier Structure. At the field level, every Degree College has one Unit. Each unit has organizational structure with one President, one Secretary, one treasurer elected by members in the Unit and in the second tier at district level, one President, one Secretary one Treasurer and one Lady Secretary elected by District General Council members.
Apex level, TGCTA State Body has one Chairman, one President, one General Secretary, one Finance Secretary, one Academic secretary, one Lady Secretary, two vice Presidents, Two Zonal Secretaries elected by State General Council and one Associate President, one Associate Secretary Six State EC Members and Six University EC members are nominated by State Executive Body of TGCTA.
